The Singing Field Update

This project was carried out in summer of 2020. We sang in six locations. The first at a remarkable underpass near Petri Lane in Kanata, and the second at Hogsback Park in Ottawa. The third at the vibrant and very public Sparks St. Mall, the fourth on Richmond road with cars rushing past, then on Sarsaparilla Trail – an urban trail through forest to marshland where we did our final sing.

What different experiences they were, marked by acoustic thrill/aloneness, acoustic feedback/pushback, a space made beautiful through singing and a place made difficult through singing. We experienced awareness of the structures, the surrounding environments, and the origins of each place among many other more personal vocal discoveries.
